The workplace is one of the most common sources of sustained psychological stress. Deadlines, interpersonal conflict, job insecurity, long hours, and the pressure to perform can all contribute to mental health difficulties. Left unaddressed, these difficulties affect not only the individual but also the teams and organisations around them. Mecca Psychotherapeutic Centre offers psychiatric assessment and treatment for individuals whose mental health has been affected by workplace-related factors.

What Does Workplace Mental Health Include?

Workplace mental health covers a wide range of concerns. It includes burnout, chronic work-related stress, anxiety disorders triggered or worsened by professional demands, depression associated with workplace dynamics, adjustment disorders following job loss or role changes, and the psychological impact of workplace bullying, harassment, or traumatic incidents.

These conditions are not simply a matter of needing a break. They are clinical conditions that can affect concentration, decision-making, sleep, relationships, and physical health. They require professional assessment and, in many cases, structured treatment.

Who Should Consider A Consultation?

You may benefit from a workplace mental health consultation if you have noticed a persistent decline in your ability to cope with professional demands, if stress or anxiety from work is affecting your sleep, appetite, or relationships outside of work, if you are experiencing symptoms of burnout such as emotional exhaustion, detachment, or a loss of purpose, or if a workplace event such as conflict, retrenchment, or harassment has left you struggling to function.

A consultation does not mean you are unable to work. It means you are taking a proactive step to address something that is affecting your well-being.

How Does Mecca Approach Workplace Mental Health?

Dr Nelao Mhata conducts a thorough psychiatric assessment to understand the nature and severity of the presenting condition. This includes exploring the specific workplace factors involved, any pre-existing mental health history, and the broader context of the individual's life and responsibilities.

Based on the assessment, a treatment plan is developed. This may involve medication, ongoing psychiatric follow-up, referral for psychotherapy, lifestyle adjustments, or, in cases where the individual's condition is severe, a period of inpatient rehabilitation at the centre. The aim is to support a return to stable functioning, whether that means returning to the same role, transitioning to a new one, or taking the time needed to recover fully.

Assessments For Employers And Organisations

Mecca also provides psychiatric assessments that employers or insurers may request in the context of workplace-related mental health claims, fitness-for-duty evaluations, or disability assessments. These assessments are conducted with clinical objectivity and in accordance with professional and ethical standards.
