Home/ Services/ Inpatient Rehabilitation

Sometimes recovery requires more than outpatient appointments. When symptoms are severe, when daily life has become unmanageable, or when previous treatment has not been enough, a structured inpatient programme can provide the consistency and support that healing demands. Mecca Psychotherapeutic Centre offers residential rehabilitation for individuals who need a safe, supervised environment to stabilise and rebuild.

Who Is Inpatient Rehabilitation For?

Inpatient care at Mecca is designed for individuals whose mental health conditions require continuous clinical supervision and a structured daily routine. This may include patients experiencing acute psychiatric episodes, those recovering from a mental health crisis, individuals with co-occurring conditions such as substance use and psychiatric illness, or patients who have not responded to outpatient treatment alone.

Admission is also appropriate for individuals whose home environment is not conducive to recovery, or for families who need the reassurance that their loved one is receiving round-the-clock care.

What Does The Programme Include?

Each patient's programme is built around their individual treatment plan. A typical day at Mecca may include psychiatric consultations, medication management, occupational therapy sessions, music therapy, psychoeducation, physical activity in the on-site gym, time in the garden or lapa, and access to the library for self-directed learning and reflection.

The centre accommodates up to 30 patients. Standard rooms provide a comfortable base for recovery, while three high-risk rooms with capacity for six clients are available for patients requiring closer observation. Two isolation rooms are specifically designed for the safe stabilisation of patients experiencing psychotic or aggressive episodes.

How Long Does Inpatient Rehabilitation Last?

The length of stay varies. Some patients require a few weeks to stabilise and transition back to outpatient care. Others benefit from a longer programme that allows for deeper therapeutic work and gradual reintegration into daily life. The clinical team reviews each patient's progress regularly and adjusts the treatment plan accordingly.

There is no fixed discharge date. The focus is on readiness, not on a calendar.

What Happens After Discharge?

Discharge planning begins well before a patient leaves the facility. The team works with patients and their families to develop a transition plan that includes follow-up psychiatric appointments, ongoing medication management, and, where appropriate, referrals to community-based support services. The aim is to reduce the risk of relapse and support a stable return to everyday life.
